Stopover in Singapore
Day 1: San Francisco/Los Angeles - Singapore
Shortly after noon today, catch your Singapore
Airlines flight to Asia. Arrive in Singapore two days later after
crossing the International Dateline.
Day 3: Singapore
B
Day at leisure to
see the sights of Singapore (a visitors pass is included for
entrance fees and transportation) or indulge in some shopping!
Day 4: Singapore to Delhi
B
Leave Singapore
this evening and fly to Delhi, India’s capital.
Day 5:
Delhi to Agra
B
This morning,
visit Humayun’s Tomb and
enjoy a brief tour of Old Delhi, riding in a rickshaw just like the
locals, through the narrow streets and teeming bazaars. Also visit
the grand mosque (Jama Masjid) of Delhi before heading south to
Agra.
Day 6: Agra
B
Wake up early
today to see the Taj Mahal
changing
color from orange to dazzling white with the rising sun, an
unforgettable sight. Built almost 400 years ago by an emperor in
loving memory of his wife, this exquisite marble monument is simply
awesome in its beauty. Later, visit the massive Agra Fort
,
built of red sandstone.
Day 7:
Agra to Jaipur
B
Visit Fatehpur
Sikri ,
a 16th century capital of Mughal India, abandoned soon
after it was built when water ran out! Later, visit the Keoladeo
National Park,
once a Maharajah’s private duck shooting grounds and now a haven for
migratory birds from Central Asia and further north. Continue to
Jaipur, noted for its handicrafts, colorful bazaars and broad
avenues lined by sandstone clad houses (hence the name ‘pink city’).
Day 8: Jaipur
B
Your morning tour
includes visits to the Maharajah’s City Palace and the Palace of
Winds (which is not really a palace but an elaborate façade behind
which royal ladies watched street processions while remaining unseen
themselves). In the afternoon, visit the hilltop fortress palace of
Amber, climbing up on the back of a decorated elephant just like
royalty in the past!
Day 9: Jaipur to
Mandawa
B
Travel north
along an ancient trading route between China and Arabia, until you
reach the busy market town of Mandawa. In the 18th
century wealthy merchants and noblemen constructed mansions (havelis)
with exquisite paintings decorating their walls, and many of these
still stand today bearing witness to their faded glory. The medieval
fort of Mandawa dominates the town with a painted arched gateway
adorned with Lord Krishna and his cows.
Day 10: Mandawa
to Delhi (and onward to Singapore)
B
Enjoy some free
time this morning to visit some of the smaller towns and villages of
the region or perhaps shop for some arts and crafts, before leaving
for Delhi this afternoon. Proceed directly to the airport this
evening for the overnight flight to Singapore.
Day 11: Singapore
to USA
Land in Singapore
early this morning for your connecting flight to the US, arriving
the same day.
