Trip Itinerary
Day 1: USA to Singapore
Shortly after noon today, catch your Singapore
Airlines flight to Asia. Arrive in Singapore two days later after
crossing the International Dateline.
Day 3: Singapore
Arrive just after midnight and check into your
hotel. The day is free until you leave Singapore this evening and
fly to Delhi, India’s capital.
Day 4: Delhi
This morning, visit some of the ancient monuments
here such as the Qutb Minar and Humayun’s Tomb . Explore narrow
streets and teeming bazaars in Old Delhi, riding in a rickshaw just
like the locals! Visit the grand mosque before enjoying some free
time for shopping etc.
Day 5: Delhi to Agra
Travel by chauffer driven car to Agra, the site
of the fabulous Taj Mahal ! Twenty thousand master craftsmen labored
for twenty years to build this awesome memorial for one man in honor
of his wife. See other monuments, such as the impressive Agra Fort ,
made of red sandstone.
Day 6: Agra to Delhi
Return to Delhi and board the Palace on Wheels
train this afternoon. The Indian railway network is the largest in
the world, and your train is the most comfortable in their fleet.
Start your journey with a special welcome dinner on board the train
this evening.
Day 7: Jaipur
After an overnight journey, arrive in Jaipur,
with its colorful bazaars and avenues lined by sandstone houses
(hence the name ‘pink city’). See the exotic Palace of Winds, which
is not really a palace but an elaborate façade behind which royal
ladies watched street processions while remaining unseen themselves!
Climb up to the hilltop fortress palace of Amber on the back of a
decorated elephant, just like royalty in the past! Return to the
train in the evening to continue your journey through Rajasthan.
Day 8: Jaisalmer
Arrive in Jaisalmer, an 800-year old trading post
located deep in the Thar desert. The old city sits within a fort and
you will be taken on a walking tour through narrow cobbled streets,
past elegant mansions and exquisitely carved temples. Experience a
camel ride in the desert and enjoy a cultural performance along with
dinner, before boarding your Palace on Wheels train for the next leg
of the journey.
Day 9: Jodhpur
Visit the impressive Meherangarh Fort this
morning, before lunch at the famous Umaid Bhavan Palace, a former
royal residence now converted into a luxury hotel. Enjoy fascinating
views of villages, colorful people and charming countryside as your
Palace on Wheels train travels through Rajasthan.
Day 10: Ranthambore National Park
to Chittorgarh and Udaipur
Early this morning visit the scenic Ranthambore
National Park, which was once the private hunting reserve of a
Maharajah. Go on a game drive where you might spot leopards,
crocodiles, deer and perhaps even a tiger! Later, return to the
Palace on Wheels train which continues to Chittorgarh, a famous fort
and the site of many ancient battles.
Day 11: Udaipur
Bid farewell to your Palace on Wheels and arrive
in Udaipur this morning. Often called “the city of lakes”, Udaipur
is famous for its whitewashed houses with brightly decorated outside
walls. Ornate doors that are entrances to homes or palaces,
beautifully laid out gardens and royal monuments, all lend their
charm to make Udaipur a fascinating place.
Day 12: Udaipur
Visit some of the city sights this morning,
including the famous Jagadish Temple and the City Palace – which is
actually a complex of no fewer than 11 palaces overlooking the
romantic Pichola Lake. A part of the palace is still the residence
of the royal family, while a fascinating museum occupies another
wing.
Day 13: Udaipur to Dungarpur
Travel by road through the countryside to reach
the Udai Bilas Palace, with its charming location by a lake. A
former royal residence and now a boutique hotel, this will be your
home for the night.
Day 14: Dungarpur to Ahmedabad
Leaving Rajasthan, continue by road to the
western state of Gujarat. Ahmedabad founded by a Muslim king almost
600 years ago, is famous for its blend of Islamic and Hindu
architecture. You can see exquisitely carved old wooden houses
lining narrow lanes and superb marble temples. Enjoy a typical
Indian vegetarian meal at a farewell dinner this evening.
Day 15: Ahmedabad to USA
Leave Ahmedabad early morning for Singapore. Try
out one of the many varieties of Asian food offer by food stalls
throughout the city.
Day 16: Singapore
The day is free for you to enjoy Singapore, a
modern city and yet distinctly Oriental. A special visitors’ pass is
included for transportation and entrance fees to important sights
around the city.
Day 17: Singapore to USA
Your flight leaves Singapore this morning,
arriving back in the US on the same day.
