Trip Itinerary |
|
Days 1 - 2 - USA to India |
Leave the US just after midnight. Crossing the
International Date Line, you arrive in Delhi the next evening. |
Day 3 Delhi to Agra |
After breakfast this morning, join a full day
city tour covering both Old and New Delhi. Visit the busy Chandni
Chowk - the silver bazaar with its myriad shops selling not only
jewelry but virtually everything imaginable; see the grand Jama
Mosque, the impressive Red Fort and the broad avenues leading to the
Parliament and other government buildings in this capital city.
Leave Delhi in the afternoon and drive to Agra. |
Day 4 Agra |
A highlight of the trip awaits you this morning,
when you visit the Taj Mahal to view this magnificent monument in
the light of the early morning sun. This fabulous monument a token
of a mans love for his wife is breathtaking in its beauty and
grandeur and is bound to leave you awed. This afternoon you will be
taken on a tour of some of the other sights in and around Agra
including the famous Red Fort, with its palaces and royal buildings
inside. Then board your overnight train bound for Varanasi. |
Day 5 - Varanasi |
You will be met at the railway station this
morning and transferred to your hotel. Later this morning, you will
be taken on a tour of Varanasi, which is perhaps the oldest
continuously inhabited city in the world. The narrow alleyways of
the old part of the city as well as the embankments on the river
Ganges are almost like the settings of a movie on medieval India
except that the scenes unfolding in front of your eyes are very
real! The evening is free for you to relax. |
Day 6 Varanasi to Kathmandu |
After a very early morning wake up call today,
leave your hotel well before sunrise to go into the city center of
Varanasi. Even at this early hour, the embankments on the river
Ganges are a hub of activity as residents as well as Hindu pilgrims
from all over the country prepare to bathe in the river at sunrise
considered a particularly auspicious time. A traditional, hand rowed
country boat has been reserved for you to cruise on the river slowly
as the sun makes an appearance on the horizon and life unfolds on
the banks of the river, exactly as it has done for the past
thousands of years. Return to your hotel for breakfast. Later
transfer to the airport for your midday flight to Kathmandu in
Nepal. Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport and transferred
to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore
Kathmandu on your own. |
Day 7 Kathmandu |
In the morning take a scenic flight along the
Himalayas and Mount Everest (weather permitting). Later visit Durbar
Square in the heart of the city, full of ancient historic palaces
and courtyards. Perched on top of a hill with great views is the
majestic stupa of Swayambhunath, built between 460 and 1200 AD. Its
establishment is linked to the creation of the Kathmandu Valley and
it is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal. In the afternoon
visit the medieval city of Bhaktapur just outside Kathmandu. It is a
living gem of Hindu temples, pagodas, palaces and ancient monuments,
some dating back to the 16th century. |
Day 8 Kathmandu |
Leave Kathmandu this morning and drive to Patan,
one of Nepals beautiful royal cities. The Patan Durbar Square
outstands with its most magnificent architectural splendor and
unique artistic beauty. Visit a Buddhist temple known locally as
Golden temple and Kumbeshwor, one of the two five-story pagoda
temples of the valley. |
Day 9 Kathmandu to Calcutta
(Kolkata) |
Enjoy some free time in Kathmandu this morning;
later this afternoon fly to Calcutta. |
Day 10 Calcutta |
Take an orientation tour of the city, well known
for its colonial era buildings, museums and art galleries. The
afternoon is at you leisure. In the evening transfer to the airport
for your overnight flight back to the US. |
Day 11 Arrival US |
After an overnight flight, arrive back in the US. |
